How you will contribute:

A&M is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join our Payroll team in New York City. The role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely posting of payroll expenses and liabilities to the firm’s financial systems as well as ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment tax laws and regulations impacting the firm's payroll. This role will work closely with the rest of the Global payroll team as well as HR, HRIS, IT, Finance and other internal business stakeholders in conjunction with our Global Mobility Tax advisers to ensure proper monitoring and reporting of short-term business travelers’ activities impacting payroll.

This position reports directly to the Manager of Payroll Accounting & Expatriate Administration.

Responsibilities:

· Post Payroll journal entries on a monthly, semi-monthly and ad hoc basis.

· Perform Reconciliation of payroll bank accounts to ensure all variances are cleared on a timely basis.

· Assist in the maintenance of accounting set-up in the Workday payroll system and the Agresso Unt4 Financial system

· Manage and maintain the internal payroll system for US & Canada tax controls, systems and processes to ensure ongoing compliance in each jurisdiction.

· Assist in data gathering for various ongoing audits through to completion and suggestion and implement any new controls as a result of any completed audits.

· Manage and assist with all US tax multi state allocations and reportable taxable fringe related to business travel.

· Responsible for standard tax reporting, including but not limited to, pulling quarterly and annual tax filings from vendor website, SUI rate notices from UI vendor, quarterly and annual standard reports, and other reports as requested

· Maintain employment tax accounts in Workday payroll system and payroll tax vendor system by ensuring account numbers are correct, rate updates are timely and providing vendor with requested information

· Assist with completion of Power of Attorney and Third-Party Authorization related to new tax account set up with vendor

· Manage end to end tax agency inquiry process from opening mail, submission of notice to payroll vendor, track progress of research and ensure satisfactory resolution of issue

· Answer and support employee tax related queries using the internal ticketing system

· Support the team on any tax related or other payroll projects

· Monitor and anticipate changes to federal, state, and local tax requirements to ensure ongoing compliance of firm business operations - this includes interpreting the changes and recommending updates to processes or controls to remain compliant because of the change.

· Work closely with eternal tax advisers, Global Mobility, Corporate Tax to ensure accurate and timely payroll reporting of short-term business travelers and international assignees activities.

· Participation in projects affecting the global payroll function is required.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's Degree, in Accounting, Finance, or Business

· 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-4 years of experience in creating journal entry postings for payroll accounts.

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is a plus

· Demonstrated knowledge of payroll practices as it relates to general ledger accounting, and treasury function

· Experience working with multi-company environment

· Knowledge and experience of federal, statutory, and local employment withholding tax regulations.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to provide superior customer service to various stakeholder levels within the firm.

· Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively across different internal teams at various levels within the firm and with external payroll vendors.

· Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to contribute to continuous process improvement within the global payroll function.

· Ability to work in a fast paced and highly energetic work environment

The salary range is $82,000 - $90,000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
